The ideal robot vacuum for pet hair should have strong suction and brushes that won't get caught in long pet hair. It should also come with an intelligent app and the ability to set no-go zones.
In my tests I conducted, the iRobot J7+ received the top marks for picking up cat and dog hair on hardwood floors. It also has an obstacle avoidance function that is said to detect cords and socks.
1. Eufy RoboVac G30
Eufy, one of the newest players in the world of robot vacuums has received positive reviews for its sleek design that can maneuver under low furniture. The G30 is a bit bigger than the 11S model but still extremely slim, and offers more suction power and a mopping function in an overall package that's less than three inches high. It also comes with an nook for charging that keeps the charging base hidden when it's not in use.
The G30 runs the application that is used by a number of the other robotic devices from Eufy. It's a basic app compared to some of its more expensive competitors but it comes with a few useful functions. You can share control of the G30 through the Settings menu. The robot can also play a loud tune to help you find it, which is useful when it is stuck in the sofa or veers over the edge of the room.
When choosing a robot vacuum, it is important to consider its ability to collect pet hair. The G30 was excellent in this area, eliminating both long and short cat and dog hairs from our test floor. It even sucked up dried clumps of cat food that older Roomba 675 struggled with.
The G30 has two options for more specific cleaning tasks: Spot and Edge. The G30 can clean a particular area for up to two minutes if you draw an outline of a floor. The first one does the same process, but it stops between each cleaning session to prevent overfilling the dustbin.
Like most robotic vacuums, the G30 generates a map as it cleans and keeps it in its memory. But it doesn't offer any other smart navigation capabilities, such as room labeling or setting virtual no-go zones. You can create boundary strips using the app, however these felt more like suggestions than boundaries. The G30 is a sophisticated and capable robot vacuum that comes at a low cost.
2. Neato D9
The Neato D9 robot vacuum cleaner comes with a bigger brush and a larger dust bin. It also has smart LIDAR mapping to clean corners with ease. It comes with sensors integrated and a docking station that can charge the device.
The D9 is a significant upgrade over the entry level D8 with more than twice the run-time and improved mapping. It also features a multi-surface brush that's more sophisticated and a high-performance filtration system that can capture smaller particles, like pet fur and hair, than standard filters.
In our tests in the lab carpets and hard flooring performed well. It also had one of the longest battery life, allowing it to cover a large home before needing a recharge. The D9 isn't equipped with an remote control, however you can control it manually via the power button on the unit, via your smartphone via the MyNeato application (available for Android and iOS) or via voice commands with Alexa or Google Assistant.
The D9's LIDAR onboard helps the robot locate and clean your home in a logical way that is free of obstacles. This helps it to clean more thoroughly. However, its size may make it difficult to get under tables and chairs, so it's not a good option for homes with expensive antiques or collectibles. The iLife V3s Pro is one of the top robot vacuums for pet hair on hard floors. It also has mopping modes and can traverse stairwells and other obstacles. Its slim design allows it to fit under furniture and reach pet hair and dirt that is hidden in hard-to access places. Its auto-charging feature helps save time by navigating back to its dock when the battery is empty. It can be controlled with an app or using the remote control.
iLife V3s Pro has many of the same features as the more expensive models, but is priced less than half. It can handle carpeting, stone, and low-pile flooring as well as various tiles and hardwood surfaces. It can be programmed to clean according to a set schedule, and will continue doing this even if you're away from home. It has smart sensors that keep it from falling down a flight of stairs or scratching antique furniture legs. Its sleek pearl white finish works well with a variety of styles. It is low enough to be able to fit under sofas and beds.
Its meager motor may not have the same power of more expensive models but it is quick to get rid of pet hairs and other debris from hard surfaces. The V3s Pro can also be set to clean the kitchen, bathroom or other rooms on a regular basis.
Although it doesn't include a rotating brush, the V3s Pro has a 3-inch suction opening that lets debris flow into the bin. Two brushes with three-spoke bristles rest on either side to loosen crumbs and other particles, before they are swept away.
The iLife V3s Pro has a cleaning performance comparable to that of the Roomba from iRobot and Eufy RoboVac. The results of its lab tests were average when compared to other robot vacuums that have similar specifications. It completed a test in 1 hour 31 minutes and 1 seconds it was slightly slower than the iRobot Roomba or the Shark Ion R85. It was able to wash pet hair and other debris off bare floors but struggled on high-pile carpeting that was thick or rugs.
4. Deebot X2 Omni
Although the X2 Omni isn't the newest robot vacuum and mop from Ecovacs, it is still one of the best models available for cleaning pet hair. The X2 Omni can clean floors and carpets. It uses rotating washing pads that are immersed in hot 130-degree water to help it eliminate dirt and pet hair. This is an exclusive feature that other robots lack which makes the Deebot distinguish itself from the competition.
The robot is also adept at staying clear of obstacles. It was able to stay clear of furniture legs, pet toys, and even poop when it was tested. The X2 Omni's built-in camera records its obstacles which allows you to enjoy hands-free entertainment.
Although it is a more expensive robot vacuum than the iRobot Combo j7+, it has received a lot of praise from owners who appreciate how easy it is to use and how well it works. The only issue with the X2 is that it requires an internet connection to function, which could be a problem for certain households.
